Embroidery

This art-form, called Embroidery Sculpture is an exploration into texture, colour and detail. Each piece is a unique and organic expression of a variety of materials and may take several months to create.

Fiona began working in embroidery over 30 years ago after having a vision of very fine embroidery set into stained glass, which you can see in the pictures below. The materials are natural threads, many of which are hand-dyed. Within and around the stitches, Fiona adds other elements such as feathers, shells or lichen that present themselves on walks in nature and by the sea.
